Gwen Stefani shared an encore on No Doubt show at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater on Saturday night, June 27. The sing along Paramore and Janelle Monae as opening act, the show was showing as female empowerment and show-business.
No Doubt's set ran through their singles, which were mostly played like their recorded versions except for "Excuse Me Mr.," which was transformed from punk to Police-like reggae. In a halter showed off her navel, Stefani started one song by doing push-ups, hip-swinging strut that bespoke total confidence. While, her bandmate, Adrian Young wore lipstick to accentuate the faces he made while drumming, with frequent video close-ups. Tom Dumont on guitar had a new waver’s skinny tie and terse, well-honed guitar parts, while Tony Kanal danced sinuously in place to his own bass lines.
For the opening act Paramore unveiled songs from its next album, "Brand New Eyes," and "Ignorance." Additionally, Monae, a song-and-dance trouper, elaborately embellished version of Charlie Chaplin's ballad "Smile" that she dedicated to Michael Jackson.
